Samsung Galaxy S3 gets Android Jelly Bean update on Orange

Orange has, at long, long last, made Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean available for the Samsung Galaxy S3, ending what's been something of a marathon wait for the natty OS bump.

S3 owners on the fruity network can grab the software bump now via Samsung?s proprietary download solution, Kies. However, although the upgrade started last Friday, it?s worth noting that it will be released on a staggered basis to contract customers.

That means you may face a slightly longer wait yet to get your hands on it. Still, given that Orange?s tardiness means that Jelly Bean is arriving on the S3 months after some rival networks, we guess that its customers are probably used to a bit of waiting by now.

Features the upgrade brings to the S3 include smart-search-cum-voice-activated-digital assistant Google Now in all its card-based glory, as well as Project Butter, which encompasses a slew of performance optimisations for a slicker, smoother smartphone experience all round.

As ever, before grabbing Jelly Bean it?s a good idea to back up your data, lest anything goes awry during the install. It?s also smart to use a Wi-Fi connection to avoid eating up your 3G download allowance.
