NBCUniversal's delivery increases are not limited to the linear TV side of its coverage from the London Games, as the programmer has already surpassed, or is poised to exceed, the full digital tallies from the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
NBCOlympics.com has scored 1.1 total page views across its online, mobile and tablet platforms, including the apps NBC Olympics Live Extra and NBC Olympics, pushing within 100 million over Beijing's 1.2 billion total, with six days remaining from London. NBCU officials indicated that London page views were up 38% from 811 million at the corresponding point of the Beijing Games. On average, visitors to NBCOlympics.com spend more than 27 minutes per visit, 118% higher than the average time spent per user four years ago on the Games action.
On the authentication front, NBCU reports that some 7.6 million devices having been verified by cable, satellite and telco customers, up from 6.6 million on Aug. 3.
That's feeding into significant increased in video streaming, which now totals 102.6 million, versus 75 million for the entire 2008 quadrennium. Of that total, 45 million have been live from London, a 355% leap from 10 million at the same point from Beijing and more than triple the 14 million throughout those Games.
From a unique user perspective, there have already been 39.1 million visitors to NBCOlympics.com on computers for London, versus 37 million for all of Beijing, with the mobile website garnering 6.8 million versus 4.2 million. The downloads for apps NBC Olympics Live Extra and NBC Olympics are at 8.7 million and 3.1 million, respectively, and counting.
All-around gold medal gymnast Gabby Douglas and Michael Phelps, the most-decorated Olympian ever, sit atop the podium of "most clicked athletes," garnering 18.27 million and 7.04 million, respectively. (see the top 10 below)
The events capturing the most live streams thus far were the USA women's gymnastics team winning gold (1.46 million), Jamaica's Usain Bolt defending his title as the world's fastest human in the 100-meter sprint (1.29 million) and Phelps' winning the 200 individual medley (1.19 million).
